In this two-part workshop participants will explore how technology can enhance the teaching and learning environment in the construction and engineering technology curriculum. The first part of the session will focus on the millennial student and technology integration strategies that faculty can employ to increase student engagement and learning. The second part will offer a panel discussion featuring Wentworth engineering and construction faculty who have effectively utilized virtual team, collaboration, and assessment technologies in the classroom.

The panel discussion will be followed by smaller roundtable discussions where participants will have the opportunity to share tips, experiences and teaching strategies with colleagues regarding the implementation and use of learning technologies.

NASPA: Strategic Partnerships to Infuse Technology in Student Affairs
March 09, 2010
Chicago, IL

More than ever it is important to leverage collaborative relationships across campus to meet student needs. In light of budget cuts, staff constraints, and scheduling limitations at Wentworth Institute of Technology, the Student Affairs Division partnered with the Department of Training and Development. Programs were developed utilizing Blackboard to create a virtual learning community for student leaders, improve assessment, create targeted sanctions, differentiate alcohol education programming, and implement a hybrid transfer seminar.

Using Web 2.0 Tools to Build a Personal Learning Network
January 28, 2010
Northeastern University

The benefits of a Personal Learning Network (PLN) are numerous and well documented. Anecdotally, those with a wide-ranging PLN say the wealth of information, resources, links, reflection, and contacts are rich. Implementing a couple of tools as part of your PLN will allow you to easily connect with people around the world, stay up to date in your field, and extend your thinking about current educational issues and trends. This session will highlight the benefits and challenges of developing a Personal Learning Network and demonstrate some of the most powerful (and simple) Web 2.0 tools for developing one. We will also consider the implications for using these tools with students and build a framework for facilitating the “personal vs. professional” conversation with students.

December 01, 2009
College of the Holy Cross

Want to ramp up your workshop offerings to faculty? Don’t reinvent the wheel!
Attendees of this SIG will go home with access to lesson plans, scripts, handouts, slides, and exercises from colleagues at other institutions. Presenters will walk us through a streamlined version of their workshop and best practices for using their material. Workshops will focus on areas that translate well to many campuses; the menu includes web 2.0 tools, managing personal digital resources and using multimedia in teaching and learning.

But wait… there’s more! The day includes an exploration of ways to improve assessment of faculty training or development programs.

International Conference of Education, Research, and Innovation: A SHIFT IN LEARNING CULTURE – COLLABORATING TO LEVERAGE RESOURCES IN CRITICAL TIMES
November 16-18, 2009
Madrid, Spain (Virtual Presentation)

Uncertainty in challenging economic times has reached all organizations, including institutions of Higher Education. Compared to Europe, the density of U.S. private and public colleges is particularly high in urban areas with a primary focus to sustain student enrollment numbers and operations. Established support services such as faculty development are considered necessary and essential, but are also vulnerable during economic hardships. As a result, colleges had to be cost-cautious and innovative in their efforts to build scalable and sustainable faculty development initiatives.

Association of Supervision and Curriculum Design: iPods: A Catalyst for Learning
March 16, 2008
